Dewalt DWE315K Oscillating Tool Review

When it comes to power tools, Dewalt is a name worthy of your trust. For years, the brand has been producing quality equipment to serve countless professional contractors as well as occasional DIY enthusiasts. Today I would introduce to the latest Dewalt product that has hit the market shelves in my Dewalt oscillating tool review; the Dewalt DWE315K oscillating toolkit. Is it a wise investment to make? Hopefully, a patient read would give you the answer to that question.

I use Dewalt DWE315K for many of my home improvement projects. Internet research played its part in my decision of purchasing the product, but it was the brand value that appealed to me the most. Being one of those Mr. FixIt guyz, I know my around power tools and doing so, I know how reliable any product coming in the iconic yellow, and black shades of Dewalt can be. My Dewalt Oscillating Tool review enlists all the benefits and drawbacks of this particular model alongside discussing some potential replacements.

Dewalt Oscillating Tool review

POWERFUL 3 AMP MOTOR provides strong performance for cutting and sanding. QUICK-CHANGE ACCESSORY SYSTEM allows blades and attachments to be changed quickly without wrenches.

An oscillation tool is an excellent addition to the toolkit for any DIY enthusiast as they are useful to be deployed in many remodeling scenarios like removing grout, sanding surfaces or cutting plywood boards. Before you buy an oscillating tool, you must be fully aware of its strengths and restraints.

Why should you go for DWE-315K? What’s so special about it? Most Dewalt oscillating tool reviews highlight the tool’s oscillation angle as its most distinctive feature. The to and fro movement of the blades are applied to get the job done. The packaging label claims this unit boasts an oscillation level of 1.6 degrees. Oscillation angle is the angular distance a blade covers when it vibrates. Both large and small oscillation angles have their perks; large oscillation angles facilitates fast cutting while shorter angles are suitable for the finer finish and easy handling. This one falls in the short oscillation angle range, making this an ideal pick for smoother finishing and effortless handling.

Let’s discuss some drawbacks now. DWE315K has a 10 feet long power cord which somewhat limits its portability, but it should be long enough to take care of your household needs. You can attach an extension cord to enhance its range, but you must make sure it is entirely compatible with the tool you are using.

The built-in motor runs on 120 volts and is capable of providing 3 amperes of electric current, meaning you should be able to take care of all those DIY projects lying around your household.

Here are some facts you should always remember while buying an oscillation tool:

Remember while buying an oscillation tool:

If you are DIYer, I would recommend using a corded oscillation tool like Dewalt DWE315K. Cordless versions might seem tempting since they are more suitable to be carried around but in most models, batteries often run out within 10-45 minutes. If you are working at home, you won’t need a cordless tool as you would always be close to a socket.

Look for additional features that would make your work easier. Dewalt DWE315K, for instance, is quite convenient to work in tight and dark spaces as it comes with a handy guidance system and a bright LED light attached.

You can buy oscillating tools within a budget range of $25-$130.Even though higher price tags often offer better comfort and superior performance, I don’t think it would be logical splashing the clash unless you intend to use the tool regularly and have planned a large project.

The oscillation angle is a trade-off between speed and precision. Larger oscillation angles would get the job done in a jiffy, but narrower oscillation angle would give you better control over the tool and help you shape your cut properly. Go for lower angles, if you don’t have much experience using an oscillation tool.

Dewalt DWE315K Oscillating Tool Kit Review

Dewalt DWE315K is the first oscillation tool ever manufactured by Dewalt but the brand boasts a long line of power tools which have earned rave reviews from their users. It upholds the legacy of its manufacturers by offering a variety of special features within a very reasonable price.

As I had said earlier, I felt confident to go for this Dewalt DWE315K for the reputation of its manufacturer.  Now that I have been using it for a while, the thing I like best about this model is its ease of use. You would feel very comfortable to use it and its powerful motor would give the blades enough momentum to cut through any surfaces coming your way.

A Dewalt oscillating tool review – Features & Benefits

I have found this tool useful on multiple fronts. Thanks to its versatility, I managed to finish my renovation work much faster than I had expected.

The fast-cut wood blade came in real handy when I was cutting into the door board of my kitchen cabinet during my kitchen remodeling. I could also change to sandpaper for sanding the edges quite easily. The blades come off with ease, and you can instantly attach the sanding pad and sandpaper.

In many tools, you would need an accessory holding tool, a wrench-for instance, for superior grip. But, I didn’t need one using DWE-315K as I could simply adjust the angles while I was cutting the door.

The Dewal DWE-315K comes with a range of useful accessories that gives you the green light to take on multiple types of projects.  An oscillating multi-cutter like this one could bail you out on several occasions when other conventional power tools falter to deliver.

Sanding, trimming, cutting are some of the common challenges you would face during your DIY projects, and you can take care of all these by using the right accessory with this tool. For example, let’s consider a simple makeover project-the semi-circle blade would let you build a cutting guide for accurate cuts. The fast-cut wood blade would be the blade you would be used for follow up and actually cut through the wood, and finally, the sandpaper attachment would let you do the finishing-you could do these all by using one tool only.

The Quick-Change enables faster detachment and attachment of accessories, saving much of your precious time. All you need to do is press the lever to remove an accessory, slot in a new one and then, press the lever again to lock it down-it won’t even take you a minute!

Do you specifically need to use Dewalt made accessories for this particular item? If you have oscillating tool accessories from a different manufacturer, would they be rendered obsolete? Thankfully, the answer is no to both of these questions as Dewalt gives you a universal adapter to accommodate all types of oscillating tool accessories.

The blades that are originally included in the kit will fill the bill in most scenarios, but sometimes you might be inclined to go for a stronger blade, say something made by Ezarc, Rosch or Qbit. The universal adapter of Dewalt DWE-315K will make life much easier for you. As you wouldn’t have to stick to a specific brand while choosing the blade for your machine. I personally use a Platinum Bi-metal Saw Blade with my DWE-315K for cutting metal rods.

I’m a big fan of this model’s oscillation tool guide system! What does it do? It makes sure you are making the cut you precisely need. Using this system, you can manually reset the height and depth of the cut, giving you absolute control over the tool during cutting and grinding.

The LED light in the front of the machine is also a lifesaver when you would have to work in dark areas. No need to have someone else by your side holding a flashlight; the LED work light is bright enough for having good vision in low light situations.

As an avid do-it-yourself person, I am quite satisfied with the service I got from this tool. The 3 amp motor provides sufficient power to give you a maximum of 22,000 rotations per minute. It is good enough to accomplish a lot within a couple of minutes. It also has fantastic grip so you shouldn’t have to worry about accidentally slipping it out of hand.

The narrow oscillation angle of this item makes it perfect for accurate cuts and smooth finishing. Beside the tool’s masterful engineering tapers off the vibration shock by absorbing a significant portion of the vibration. It allows for even finer accuracy and control when you are working in narrow spaces.

The tool is suitable for cutting through most surfaces. I have used it to cut through plastic, cardboard, wood and many other materials during my remodeling ventures around the house.  The build is quite solid too; I have been using it for more than a year without any problem.

However, I do have a few complaints about this model. Here’s a list of some pros and cons of Dewalt DWE315K –

  • Powerful 3.0 amp motor.
  • Great accuracy in cutting and sanding.
  • Tool guidance system to ensure cutting accuracy.
  • LED light for working in dark areas.
  • Quick-change feature for instant interchange of accessories.
  • Universal adaptor for accommodating accessories made by different manufacturers.

  • It gets overheated after half an hour of use, especially in slower cutting speeds.
  • Very noisy. Always use ear muffs while using it.
  • The sanding attachment uses Velcro to attach sandpapers. Under high pressure, the Velcro gets hot and is at risk of melting.

Here are some user comments from e-commerce sites sharing how they feel using Dewalt DWE315K.

“I have never owned an oscillating saw before but it has been handy with various projects. I had to trim some bamboo flooring that had swollen and was pushing against a wall, trim some door headers to fit beside a cabinet, some sanding in a cabinet, etc. This tool has served it’s purpose well for the price. I can’t compare it to other oscillating saws. The variable speed trigger has worked well.”

“One of the blade it doesn’t work it’s to cheap. The blade gets ruined fast “
“Powerful Tool. I never thought these oscillating tools were that useful or powerful. This one takes a 20 min manual jamb-saw cutting job and turns it into a 10 sec task. I am happy it is corded as I won’t be using it anywhere that doesn’t have electricity, so no worrying about batteries. Also, I love the carrying case.”

Surprisingly, Dewalt 315K is the first oscillation tool brought into the market which was launched in 2013. But the company is yet to replace the item which is a prime reflection of the unit’s ever-growing consumer confidence. In my Dewalt oscillating tool review, I have tried to put together the advantages and disadvantages of the item vividly. The unit definitely has some drawbacks, but the pros you would be getting from this item substantially outweigh the cons.
