Quicksand Mat Review : CGear Sand-Free Multimat

We all love enjoying a sunny day on the beach, but the same can’t be said about the sandy towels we often bring back home from the ocean side. Wouldn’t it be great if you got to leave the sand where it belongs instead of bringing it back home every time you go to the beach? There are sand repellant alternatives to the regular towels you use on the beach and today I would be introducing you with one of them in my quicksand mat review.

Quicksand Mat Review
I was fed up with heading towards the laundry room with my towels every time I returned home from an on-beach sunbathing session, so I decided to go for a sandproof beach blanket. After going through a handful of quicksand mat reviews, I made up my mind to go with CGear sand free multi-mat. Throughout this article, I would try to highlight the positives and negatives of this particular beach mat based on my personal experiences of using it.

For Whom The Product Is?

First of all, let’s briefly discuss whether you need this product or not. If you are not a frequent beachgoer, I won’t recommend you buying this. If you don’t hit the beach much often, regular towels will serve you just fine.

Washing the blankets wouldn’t be a regular hassle so why spending money on an item that you would seldom use? Besides this product would not be an ideal pick if you need to use it on wet, damp surfaces. While it dries off quite fast, it’s not ideally waterproof.

CGear sand-free mats would be an excellent buy for beach lovers as well as outdoor enthusiasts who love to attend picnics, concerts regularly or even for regular parents who must attend their kid’s soccer matches on weekends.

Things To Consider Before Buying:

Here are some essential factors you should keep in mind while shopping for a beach mat:

Unsurprisingly, the price comes first when you are scrolling through your beach mat options in the market. But don’t go for the cheapest one you see, make sure the mat you are buying serves all your needs. Mats of varying price ranges are abundant, so it’s quite possible to get the mat you are looking for within a reasonable price.

Make sure the mat you are buying would be a durable one and endure outside exposure over a substantial period. As most quicksand mat reviews say, more expensive mats don’t necessarily guarantee superior durability. Check for the materials used.

Accommodation vs. Portability:

There are two types of sizes you need to be concerned with. First comes the size that indicates the area the mat would cover once it has been fully rolled out.  Pick a size that comfortably accommodates the number of people you would usually entertain. If you are looking something just for yourself, go for a smaller one. Then comes the size of the mat when it’s rolled up.

How could that be of any importance? It’s important because it means how much space it would take up when you would be carrying it along. The larger the rolled up size, the more challenging it would be regarding portability and storage.

Finally, you should know which terrains you would be frequenting when you are buying an outdoor mat. A solid rubber underline helps if you want to use it on dry and hard surfaces, like on concretes and marble floors. Grass and sand, on the other hand, tends to be damper so you should look for a mat that has a water-resistant posterior and also easily shakes off the sand.

CGear Sand-Free Multi Mat : Quicksand Mat Review

CGear Sand-Free multi mats are just what you need to have a clean, sand-free experience outdoors. The way it works is it has a double layered polyethylene mesh that allows sand to penetrate through the top but not through the bottom.

I could take a handful of sand and drop it on this mat, pat it a few times and then switch my hands across it then the sand disappears and falls through the mesh, but the double layered mesh doesn’t allow the sand to come back up through the bottom. This technology, which was originally designed for US Air Force helipads, is great for those of us who love to spend our time in sandy beaches, in camps where dirt and grit could become a problem.

I’ve had the opportunity to use CGear’s Sand-Free multi-mat a couple of times, and I loved it, which inspired me to write this quicksand mat review.

You can comfortably host a picnic on this thing; if you drop some food, you can literally put that back in your mouth without having to worry about a mouthful of sand.

This two-layer synthetic mesh is mold, and mildew resistant doesn’t absorb water and dries quickly. It’s also a rip-stop mesh, which means if you do get a hole on the mat it is not going to spread through the fabric. This fabric was designed for helicopter landing so believe me when I say this-you won’t get a mat more durable than this one.

  • Sand, dirt and dust resistant.
  • 100% polyethylene made double layer mesh.
  • D-rings for firm attachment to the ground.
  • Easily washable and dries instantly.
  • UV reflecting body with long-lasting color.
  • Great durability.

  • Might not work best in coarse sand beaches.

Sand, Dirt & Dust will disappear before your eyes. Perfect for camping and the beach, the Mat provides D-Rings around the edges to affix firmly to the ground.

CGear isn’t the only beach mat I will be discussing in my quicksand mat review. Here are some other items which are also worthy of your consideration:

Camco 42805 60″ x 78 ″ Handy Mat With Strap

Camco Handy Mat with Strap

This Camco mat is a conveniently portable beach mat with some handy attributes. With a favorable size and other useful features, Camco 42805 would be the first recommendation in my quicksand mat review, as an alternative to CGear Sand-Free multi-mats.

It’s large enough (60″ x 78″) to entertain your guests, but it shrinks down substantially when rolled up (10.5″ x 15″), eliminating your transportation and storage concerns.

The mat comes with two straps which make it even easier to carry and the fact that it weighs a pound barely also promotes its mobility. High endurance polypropylene exterior keeps the mat immune to weather adversities, mold, and mildew.

Wildorn Outfitters Sand Escape Beach Blanket

Wildorn Outfitters Sand Escape Beach Blanket

The Wildorn beach blanket is another item worth checking out if you are looking for a durable beach blanket with some useful features.

There are four empty pockets in the blanket that could be filled up with sand to anchor it to the ground, making sure strong wind doesn’t blow it away.

These pockets could also be used for storage purposes. It’s large enough to fit all members of your family but can be carried around in a small carrier pouch that comes with the blanket.

I bought one of these to use at my family’s beach house in the Outer Banks. We have another giant blanket but get so tired of sand getting all over it, so I bought this one to have as well. I bought the 8×8 and it’s a great size for a few people – We just tested it out 2 weeks ago and it was fantastic! We had 3 adults and a kid, 3 different sized beach chairs and our beach bags and there was plenty of room for all of us. The sand really does go right through it, although FYI it’s a little less instant when the sand is wet, which is understandable! No need to even hose it off! There are also rings around the edges to tack it down if you need to. With all the stuff we had on it we didn’t need that, but at least it’s an option! It’s a bit bulky to carry, but we didn’t mind as we’ll have a bag big enough next year to carry it in, and we’re excited to use it next summer and for years to come!
